Two parallels/applications:

Train to control your thoughts and how you react in both speech and action just as much as you train to control a weapon or your empty-hands.

Stay centered and maintain clarity of mind in order to make the distinction between a real threat and a jerk just being a jerk.

On the flip side, this would also include not being a jerk by allowing your mouth (ahem… ego) to get you into trouble.
